S. Angelo, the island within the island of Ischia

We are located in an isolated and quiet area, but at the same time in the centre of numerous spots of unique beauty: history, nature and wellness, just look around. The route to the hotel, leaving cars, buses and taxis in the car parks at the entrance to S. Angelo and continuing on foot, is a fascinating maze of narrow streets overlooking the sea. At every corner, you will discover a stunning view, the same view that seduced the Greek, Etruscan and Roman settlers, who appreciated and made use of the luminous S. Angelo as a living spring. Their presence is attested to by numerous artefacts and ancient coins found in the area.
From our hotel, you can reach in ten minutes on foot the famous PIAZZETTA, with the delightful tourist harbour, the typical restaurants, the boutiques and, if you want to do it in comfort, you can be taken by the electric taxis stationed at the entrance of the village that will pick you up everywhere on call.

Madonnella

There is a magnificent view as you walk through the narrow streets of the upper part of the village, the oldest part known as Modonnella, where the first inhabitants of S. Angelo lived in ancient times, seeking safe shelter from the Saracen raids that threatened the island's coastline.
The name Madonnella comes from the aedicule erected out of devotion to the Madonna so that she would protect the entire village. To reach it, one need only follow the ancient paths used by fishermen to barter their catch for the produce of the peasants in the upper part of the municipality of Serrara Fontana. The same road used by mules laden with barrels of wine that were loaded onto the sailing ships of Santangiolesi shipowners bound for the port of Piombino, where a flourishing trade had begun in the shops belonging to Santangiolesi who had relocated there.

Cave of Cava Scura

You can reach the ancient thermal springs in the Cave of Cava Scura, the favourite springs of Ferdinand II of Bourbon, on foot or by taxi boat. You can visit the thermal parks or, a short walk from the Hotel Le Fumarole, the hot sands where you can still sand-bathe on the volcanic vein, just as centuries ago. As the doctor Jasolino wrote in his treatise in 1588, the Fumarole di S. Angelo are an "admirable shroud that resolves and comforts above all other remedies on this island".

Maronti, Scarrupata and Sorgeto Bays

The hotel is also within easy reach of Maronti, the longest beach on the island (about 2 km) and the ancient Olmitello spring. The nearby bays of Scarrupata and Sorgeto are easily reached by taxi boat and are not to be missed. Here, equipped with a mask and snorkel, you can observe the fascinating seabed of the Tyrrhenian Sea. There is also a diving centre where you can discover the Black Coral under our promontory, the Torre di S. Angelo. You can even hire a boat and discover the most beautiful parts of the coast, sailing under the Aragonese Castle or to the nearby island of Procida.

FEAST OF SAINT MICHELE

The most important event of the year is the festival of our patron angel, San Michele, which is celebrated on the 29th of September. While at the end of the season, it feels as if summer is returning, the town is filled with internationally acclaimed music, art and fireworks events, a joy to the heart and soul.

To get your day off to a good start, the hotel offers yoga and pilates classes by the sea, amidst the aromas of the garden and the scent of the sea. There is always a bit of water aerobics in the pool and we recommend that you do not miss our natural steam grotto to purify your skin and then dive, a few steps away, into the cool waters of the sea or the beneficial waters of the pools. Our bar will satisfy your desire for fruit, yoghurt, ice cream and drinks of all kinds at all hours of the day and for the more energetic, the hotel provides a small gym where you can work out individually in complete safety. You will also find a small library and, to the delight of adults and children alike, a small play area for children, a ping-pong table and a foosball table so you will never be bored under the sun. There will be evenings with live music as well as barbecues and themed dinners depending on the season.
